Media Review - SETUP [Speed Tv]

SETUP is Speed TV’s reality racing show. Hosted by Tommy Kendall, an accomplished race car driver and Jamie Wozny and actress/hostess, the premise of the show is aspiring racing teams compete for $100,000 cash and a chance to try out for the Pontiac Racing Team. 100’s of racers apply for a chance to interview and get on the show.

Season 1 introduced the concept by Scott Gillen of having 10 teams of amateur drivers compete against each other for a cash prize. The teams are made of 1 driver, a crew chief, and at least one mechanic. To even the field, all drivers race the same car, the Pontiac Solstice GXP, a 260hp, rear drive roadster with 4-wheel independent Bilstein adjustable suspension and staintless steel dual exhaust. The cars all receive the same race prep upgrades but the tweaking is left up to the individual teams. They run a full race each show over the 4 weeks and the losing driver gets sent home at the end of each race. The drivers left in the final show duke it out for the winning prize.

Season 2 returned the GXP’s (silver this time) but added more rules (no dropping wheels, mandatory passing, etc.) And added the twist that there are twice as many teams (24) and they share the car so mistakes by the first team can hurt the chances for the second team. You really get to see some intense intertactions as the cars are put on the line every race!
