SCM Tuning Project Alpha - (626) Part II

Here we are at phase #2 in the SCM Tuning project. In this update, the catback exhaust and race muffler were installed. Now not having any tools to cut and weld pipe, I needed to have the setup made from scratch, ‘truly’ custom. I went over to mufflers for less and had them hack off the itty stock system (2″) and weld up stainless 2.5″ tubing all the way out the back. Then they rigged up custom hangers and put the RS Type on nice and tight.

MySpace

Hey folks,

We’ve finally done it. We are users number 994,867,346 to join MySpace.com (also known as “MyCrack”) :) Why so harsh? I don’t believe there’s ever been a site that has gotten more people failed at school and fired from work without being “adult related”. It’s truly amazing. Anyway, we’ve got a page with all our relevant info and and growing list of friends.

Do you want to be our friend? lol. :D

If you want to check it out, visit myspace.com/sportcompactmiami and see what we’re up to. That’s about it for now…

Busy time of Year

Happy Holidays everyone. We have been busy here at SCM with all of the behind the scenes processes that go into creating a great online magazine. Even though no printing is involved. There is still writing, editing, correcting, design, and coding that must go on. This is on top of working with industry contacts, company execs, etc.

We hope you are enjoying the ride as much as we are enjoying taking you on it. If you’ve been paying attention on the main site, you’ll see that we have posted videos that are being hosted through Streetfire.net. They are a great resource for all videos related to cars and models. Their site is very fast and easy to work with. Picture Youtube but with only car content. We have many things planned and will be selling products and giving away SCM swag like t-shirts and hats. Stay tuned.

SCM Tuning Project Alpha - (626) Part I

Here is the first in the series of updates about the car. The first mod made to the car was the trusty drop-in K&N Filtercharger. (http://www.knfilters.com/). Now these are usually known for about 1HP in yout standard car, however, any car with “tuning” technology that can change the engine characteristics (VTEC, VVTI, VRIS) is going to work a little better. With the airbox on the 626 being right on top out in the open where it can get circulated air, the inlet snorkel runs in front of the battery and has a heat shield ensuring more outside air is pulled in from the fender opening.

With this configuration, the K&N is making an (est) 2+hp which can be heard with a more aggressive intake tone and felt with a kick on the SOPD (Seat of the Pants Dyno) The car actually felt more ‘torquey’ as well really responding to every tap on the throttle. This is on a bone stockKL03. Next mods were to the exhaust system. Stay tuned

Result:

Base: 150whp (est)

Gain: +2

Total: 152whp (est)

The West Coast Sucks…

…because they have everything when it comes to sport compact tuning. All the big dawg tubro outfits are over there, same as the best custom body shops and paint shops. What’s ironic as hell is that Cali has the most Draconian auto laws of probably all the contiguous states.

The import mags cover Cali almost exclusively while we get very little. But that’s what Sport Compact Miami is here to take care of. We are brining you all the event coverage you want to see and are also bringing those hot cars you see around town up and personal for your viewing enjoyment. Why should we stand by and let the Westerners rule the industry! We deserve the same chances to shine as they do. :-)

2 Dumb, 2 Stupid

You have to wonder what goes through the mind of a person who will drive through a parking lot full of people at 50mph or race down a 40mph limit road a twice the speed. WHY?? How stupid are these kids?? When I was their age (late teens), I and others from those times never did stuff like that.

Did we speed? Sure, on the highway at 2am when you couldn’t see another car in front or in back of you. Did we do burnouts? Sure we did, in empty parking lots late at night. Did we even do donuts? Of course, in open fields. See where I’m going? Was it wrong/illegal, most likely but at worst we wreck out own cars. The kids these days have no common sense! They freakin do burnouts in crowed parking lots, try to drift, and make W.O.T. launches in 40-50 feet. Damn fools. :-( Of course their stupidity makes it bad for everyone because if these dumb ass kids have tuned (or poser) cars and act a fool, law enforcement assumes everyone with a tuned car is doing the same.

These kids need to be dragged from their cars and beaten until they realize how dumb they are acting. I still long for the old days when street racing went on in peace down roads to nowhere and noboby really cared as long as no one got hurt. The fun was over once someone was killed at a popular race spot thus bringing the police (actually FHP) to break up the fun.

Ah, the good ‘ol days.

Welcome!
